Outdoor Education

This year, for the first time in more than 30 years, Bainbridge Island School District is unable to allocate funds for the long standing Outdoor Education Program.  Students from the islands 3 elementary schools are working toward

the common goal of raising funds to allow our 4th graders the opportunity to participate in this special Outdoor Education Program.

Please consider a tax-deductible donation to help send these kids to this important and memorable Outdoor Education Program.

All donations from this website will support Ordway Elementary School's Outdoor Education Program.  We are a non-profit organization under  501(c)(3).

Kids Pulling Together

for Outdoor Ed

April 8, 2009

Goal: $8000.00

Outdoor Education

for 4th Graders

Ordway, Wilkes and Blakely

4th grade students will conduct a

“WEED PULL” in which they will

spend about 1 hour working with

BI Parks & Rec staff to pull ivy and other invasive weeds at our local parks.  Students will ask family & friends to sponsor them for their efforts, with funds going to support the Outdoor Ed program.

A bit more about Outdoor Education:

Part of being a 4th grade student involves an environmental component of the

curriculum called Outdoor Education or Outdoor Ed.  Outdoor Ed. takes place in the spring and involves a 2 night overnight at Millersylvania State Park from

May 20 - 22, 2009.  In the past, the school district was able to help offset the cost for each individual student.  With the budget cuts that recently took place for the 2008/2009 school year, the district is unable to allot money for Outdoor Ed. this year.

For those of you who have had children go through the Outdoor Ed. experience, you know what a unique and important opportunity this is for our 4th graders.  After a series of meetings, the School District and PTO Boards of the Elementary Schools have chosen to continue to offer Outdoor Ed., though the cost of the program will fall upon the student and family to raise the funds to do so.

An online account has been established through events.org as a way to accept donations.  You may also send a check directly to Ordway if you prefer.  Kindly consider donating to this unique program to ensure it continues.  Please pass the word as this would make a meaningful holiday gift from grandparents or friends who have 4th graders at Ordway.

Additionally, we are excited to announce Kids Pulling For Outdoor Ed, a fundraising opportunity scheduled for April 8, 2009.  More details on this event will be forthcoming.

If you would like to be part of the Outdoor Ed. Committee, or would like additional information, please contact the Outdoor Ed. Committee Coordinators Sue Constan or Kirsten Fitzgerald.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about this important and special program.
