Science Fair

Calling all Scientists!

The 17th annual Science Fair is quickly approaching—Thursday, March 18th.

This is a fun, voluntary, non-competitive science fair. Science Fair volunteers have just been through the classrooms to spark interest in the event, so let your creative juices flow—but please remember that there can be no experiments that would hurt animals, no dangerous explosives such as rockets, and no volcanoes or other types of messy projects.

Your kids have a packet of information about the types of projects they can do and the steps to take for those projects.

For any project, remind your kids that the first step to take is to start brainstorming and think about what he or she would like to investigate!

Some tips:

Remember what you have been studying in your classroom’s science programs. Was there another question still bugging you that you would like to investigate further? Or did you think of a different way of approaching the problem that you would like to check out?

A science project is like a mystery in which you are the detective searching for answers. Science projects let you practice and show your detective skills—through research or investigation. You not only get to select which mystery to solve, but you can creatively design methods for uncovering clues that will give you an answer to YOUR question.

Work with a friend if you like, but get out there and HAVE FUN!
